One of the highlights of our singing programme is going to be a unique musical evening of compositions by Charles Heller, Dworzak and Brahms. The concert will be presented by international musicians: Czech pianist Peter Vasicek, Czech singer Marta Vavarova (soprano) and renowned viola player Rivka Golani. It will take place at our centre on 14th April at 7.30pm. The focus of the event will be the world premiere of his song cycle ‘Bozena’. This composition is based on letters written from Nazi occupied Polna to her son Otto who moved to London before her death in 1942. Otto was Heller’s father. Charles himself was born in 1946 and moved to Toronto in 1977. There he was a music director of Beth Emet synagogue and is also the author of the extremely well researched book: ‘How to Listen to Jewish Music’ and the composer of other extraordinary work. Some performed previously by the same musicians at the Spiro Ark. Charles Heller has recently been diagnosed with cancer and while going through tough treatment and having to spend much time at home he has decided to sort out his huge stamp collection. In turn, spending much time on it, historical and personal memories flooded his mind. Please read his recent article which appeared in Globe Life and make sure you come to the concert that should not be missed. Nitza
