JAZZ SONGS AND JEWS

A book launch of Jazz Jews by Mike Gerber with a performance by Claire Shaw.

Jews are particularly associated with two art forms; literature and music. Within the field of music it is classical music which dominates the scene particularly as instrumentalists.

Mike Gerber, author of the book is now the host of Jazz Jews hour on UK Jazz Radio referring to songs that have been widely adopted as jazz standards, and that have contributed to the evolution of jazz.
And at a special Jazzsongs and Jews event at The Spiro Ark cultural centre in central London on Sunday 28th November 2010, you can join Mike and singer/pianist Clare Shaw in a celebration - in words and music - of this symbiotic relationship between the songs of Jewish-American popular composers and jazz.
The show will feature the songs - jazzed up - of such Jewish-American greats as George Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Richard Rodgers, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin and some lesser known composers. Songs that although not written for jazz, have contributed so much to it.
Mike and Clare's Book launch and Jazzsongs and Jews concert will take place on Sunday 28th November, at 3pm at Spiro Ark's Centre, 25-26 Enford Street, W1H 1DW
